Happy Birthday Bella! :-)

Today is Bella's 1st birthday!!! :-)  I gave her a carrot, and Mom gave me the great idea of taking a picture of her wearing a birthday hat... but I found out that attempting to take a picture of an over-sized hat on a busy, hopping bunny is ... well, easier said than done!!!  :-)  *lol*  But I did get a few half-way decent pictures... enjoy. :-)

(She is in a little chicken tractor that Dad lets me use to let the bunnies get some excersise.)  :) They love hopping around in it!

Bella's Nestbox

Last night Dad and I made Bella's nest box!  Well, I guess I should say Dad made the nest box while I watched! :)  It is absolutely gorgeous.  :)  Thanks Dad! :)  I put some hay in it this morning and stuck it in Bella's pen.  She was a little scared at first when I put this big box in her pen, but then she got curious and began sniffing and exploring it. 

After she was satisfied with it, she had her breakfast. :)

Counting Down the Days....

I am anxiously awaiting Bella's babies!  Assuming she is bred, she should be having babies between April 23rd and 27th.... which is 28-32 days.  I CAN'T WAIT!!!  I'm even dreaming about it! :-) On Thursday I will give her a nest box, and by Saturday she could be popping out babies... we'll see!

Cleaning Cages

Yesterday I cleaned out the rabbit cages.  I scrubbed them out with hot soapy water and they were sparkling clean when I was done!  It was very rewarding to see my bunnies hopping around in their clean cages. :) This afternoon I will wash all the food containers/water dishes out and trim Bella's nails. :)  Lots to be done!  Dad will build me a nest box for Bella, soon, too, as she will need it in about a week!  You give does a nest box at 26 days.  They kindle at 28-32 days.  Hopefully she is bred and should be having babies prettttty soon!

Things are going better around here, finally.  Comic is eating again, thank goodness, and I'm just waiting things out with Bella.  She doesn't want to be bred with Comic, so she is probably already bred.  I hope she is.  If she is she is due around Easter, and I can't wait!!!  Dolly will be able to be bred fairly soon, hopefully next month if she is big enough.  I have been doing a lot of researching and reading about rabbits lately.  I got all my papers organized in a file box and ordered some books.  I also signed up to be a member of the ADHRC (American Dwarf Hotot Breeders Club) which has been great.  I got a ton of info in the mail and have been reading through every bit of it! :)  So I'm busy, busy, busy!  But enjoying every moment of it and learning as much as I can!  Looking forward to baby bunnies!

Raising Bunnies Runs in the Family!

Grandma Housman recently sent this old picture to us.  It is Grandpa when he was little with his Checkerd Giant rabbit.  :) I was thrilled to find out that raising bunnies runs in the family! :) :) :)

I've been having some troubles with bunnies lately.... Bella is supposed to be bred, but then she was showing signs that she maybe wasn't, so now I'm waiting for her go go into heat, but she's not.... and I'm not really sure what is going on with her!  But time will tell.... I just have to have a little patience... I'm not very good at that, though! :)  And Comic is having some problems.... I switched some things around with his pen and stuff, and he quit eating!  (He has some serious pouting problems, sometimes!)  So I've been giving him probiotic and all sorts of special treatment... he is showing some improvement now, though, thankfully!  He can be a very stubborn little rascal, but I just love him. :)  I don't think he loves all this treatment, though!  I think if it wasn't for good ol' Dolly, my sanity would be at risk.... thank goodness she hasn't had any problems.... yet.... :)  Oh well, I think as a new "mother" I'm maybe just a little over worried..... remind me I said that in a week......

Update on Bella

Unfortnately I found out that Bella is not bred, so I am in the process of breeding her to Comic right now.  Hopefully all will go well this time and I should have baby bunnies soon! :)
