An Update on the Babies

The two little guys (or gals:)) are doing better today.  The eyes are all cleared up on one of  them, the other one's eyes are still a little runny, though.  I'm still working on their diarrhea, also.  I have them in the house again so I can keep an eye on them, it's just too hard having them all the way out at the barn, so this is working better.  Thanks to Lindsey from 4 Kings Rabbitry for her help, she suggested feeding half oats and half pellets, so I started that today and they love the oats and that should help.

Yay! So glad to hear they are doing better. Give lots of yummy grass hay too. :-) My two week olds are munching on the grass hay already, they love it. Hopefully that diarrhea will clear up with the oats. Sounds like they are just trying to adjust to solids and will be okay. Praying for you and your little ones.

Oh, about weaning, I leave my babies with mom until 5 weeks and usually my moms are ready for the to be OUT of her cage by that time. I've heard some people leave babies in with mom for 8 weeks but my moms would probably kill them. I'm serious.

So I would leave them with mom until then and then move her to a different cage if you have the option to do that. It seems to not stress the babies so much when mom's smell is still there and they have each other. Give lots of hay, oats, pellets, you know the drill.;-) You're doing great with your babies by the way, a very good herdsman indeed.

Thanks Lindsey! Yup, I'm giving them lotsa grass hay. Ya, my mommas get pretty tired of pesky little babies after 4 weeks! I will move her to a different pen, although right now I have the babies in the house so I can keep an eye on them. Thanks again! :)
